When something upends your life, it's common to feel like you're carrying more than you can put into words.
Many people know that painting — without worrying about it being 'good' — gives them a place to put that weight down, even briefly. It isn't about technique (although you'll learn some).
It is about making a mark when you don't know what else to do.
Weeks 1–2 — "Making Marks"
Gentle breath practice , centering options and cultivating mindful presence before painting. Guided loose,non-representational painting in response to prompts. Simply settle the body to be a bit calmer, then let the hand move.
Weeks 3–4 — "Finding Edges"
Restorative stretching, options for mudras and other means of a 1-minute grounding ritual. Painting washes, shapes, adding boundary, and structure to the canvas — mirroring a felt sense of regaining structure and resilience. Dissolving edges, sharp edges…lost edges and how these methods can act as metaphors for the ups and downs of life.
Weeks 5–6 — "Your Ongoing Practice"
Short flowing movement warm-ups. Painting becomes more about building a satisfying personal ritual to use going forward, plus a take-home "10-minute reset" you design yourself..
